The Department of State Development, Business and Innovation has been tracking
community attitudes and engagement with science and technology since its
benchmarking survey in 2007, Community Interest and Engagement with Science
and Technology in Victoria Research
Report (prepared by
Quantum Market Research). Another survey, Community Interest and Engagement
with Science and Technology in Victoria
was conducted in
2011 (prepared by Sweeney Research).
What do Victorians think about science? Do they seek out science information?
Do they get enough science in the media? Do they think technology is advancing
too quickly? Are they more likely to engage with sport a movie or read about
science?
SPSS data sets are available for the 2007 and 2011 survey results can be
downloaded at the right hand box.
Each data set is the result of 800 interviews with Victorians over the age of
18, in inner and outer metropolitan Melbourne, and regional and rural
Victoria.
An interactive data tool is also
available and enables comparison of the 2007 and 2011 data and allows the data
to be filtered for a variety of demographic characteristics. The results of
survey questions can also be plotted against each other.
