CFA Automated Fire Danger Signs (AFDRS) Locations

The AFDRS data represents a geo-spatial dataset outlining the locations of all AFDRSs that have been implemented throughout the state of Victoria. The AFDRSs were situated at major traffic thoroughfares in order to maximise visibility by passing traffic. The current dataset only captures the geo-spatial locations, not the ratings that are applied to the different locations. These decisions on the danger ratings for each location are made the day before by the Emergency Services Commissioner and CFA Chief Officer in consultation with the Bureau of Meteorology using standardised risk tools and best judgement. CFA capture data on the locations of the AFDRSs to ensure adequate coverage of high risk locations, and to identify locations for new signs.
