The Department of Sustainability and Environment is Victoria's primary
government agency responsible for promoting and managing the sustainability of
the natural environment.
The Department's primary functions are:
• public land stewardship across forests, parks, coasts, alpine resorts and
Crown land reserves;
• promotion of sustainable resource use and management practices by industry
and the general community;
• public land fire management;
• water management;
• ecosystem and biodiversity conservation; and
• environmental and climate change policy.
