Blue Carbon Restoration Actions

Management scenarios, including fencing, levee removal, and managed retreat, to identify potential areas available for restoration at a large scale. This data only considers the restoration of mangroves and saltmarshes. The data was modelled and classified by Deakin University's Blue Carbon Lab (Costa et al. 2022) based upon existing data on fencing, levee locations, pre-European distribution of mangroves and saltmarshes (Boon et al. 2011), as well as land use (e.g. pasture/grazing lands), and inundated extent from predicted sea level rise and storm surge. The approach does not replace hydrodynamic modelling and site-specific analysis needed before undertaking a blue carbon project.
